2006
Arbor Day Poster Contest
Santa
Barbara Beautiful was a proud local sponsor of the
Arbor Day 2006 National Poster Contest for the sixth
consecutive year. This
year’s theme was
“Trees
are Terrific … In all Shapes and Sizes!”
From
its humble beginnings in 2000 as a pilot project, the fledgling
program has taken off and soared this year to include three
school districts for a total of seven elementary schools and the
Arts Alive! Creativity Center. The contest is open to all fifth
graders in the USA.
This year’s local winners
were presented to the Mayor and City Council on Tuesday March 7
(California Arbor Day) during the presentation of an Arbor Day
Proclamation to Santa Barbara Beautiful for its work planting
trees in the community.
Local
Participants: Adams; Cleveland; Cold Spring; Franklin; Harding;
Hope; Monte Vista schools, and Arts Alive! Creativity Center.
These local winners of the
national contest will now compete at the State level.
One winning poster will represent California in the
national competition held at the headquarters of the National
Arbor Day Foundation in Nebraska.
The national poster contest winner will be announced in
April.
A tree planting and awards
ceremony will be held at each school in honor of National Arbor
Day.
